Natural Gas Ball Valve

Batu Valve natural gas ball valves are manufactured to TS EN 331 and TS 9809 and are used as distribution and service valves in natural gas, LPG and flammable gas installations.

Steel body valves are rated PN 16 / 40; a stainless steel option is also available.

Pressure ratings and MOP

For natural gas valves, MOP denotes the "maximum operating pressure". On sphero body natural gas valves the pressure rating varies with size:

DN 15 – 50MOP 5 – 20TS EN 331
DN 65 – 100PN 40TS 9809

Installation

  • Where a flow direction is marked on the valve it is installed accordingly; otherwise it may be installed in either direction.
  • The valve is installed in the open position with the lever in the direction of flow.
  • The flange side carrying the technical data is the inlet.
  • A leak check is carried out after installation.

Commissioning and leak test

  • The line is pressurised in stages.
  • The valve is kept fully open during the test.
  • The leak test is carried out with foam or a gas detector.

Leak checking with a flame is strictly prohibited. No ignition source is permitted in the work area; non-sparking tools are used.

Maintenance

A natural gas ball valve has no fixed periodic maintenance interval. A disc spring is located beneath the stem nut; it maintains continuous sealing in the stuffing box under varying internal pressure and temperature.

If stem sealing decreases after long service, the stem nut is tightened slightly and sealing is restored.

  • On three-piece valves all moving parts are located in the centre body; the centre body is removed from between the ends and the parts are replaced.
  • On Burak type (two-piece) valves the parts are replaced by removing the closure on the centre body.
  • The line is purged with inert gas before dismantling.
