Ball Valve Types
Batu Valve manufactures twelve types of ball valve. The types are distinguished by body design, by the governing standard and by the duty they perform.
For the operation and components of a ball valve, see the Ball valve design and operation page.

Pipeline valves (API 6D)
API 6D ball valve
The principal construction of the API 6D series is the split body: the body and closures are bolted together and the valve can be dismantled for maintenance. Trunnion ball valves are manufactured up to 24″ in the range Class 150 – Class 2500; the end connections may be flanged or welded.
Fire-safe design, anti-blowout stem and antistatic device are standard in this series.
DBB (double block and bleed) ball valve
With the valve closed, sealing is provided on both sides and the pressure in between can be bled off. The Batu Valve DBB ball valve achieves this in a single body: the body contains two balls with a bleed valve between them. It replaces two separate shut-off valves and one bleed valve.
Pig launcher and receiver ball valve
Combines launching the pig, receiving the pig and shutting off the line in a single body. Details are given on the Pigging with pig ball valves page.
Fully welded underground ball valve
A fully welded ball valve whose body is closed by welding. It is light, durable and compact; it is used mainly on gas transmission and distribution lines and is generally installed underground. The ball is supported by trunnion blocks.
Routine maintenance cannot be carried out on underground valves; preventive maintenance and inspection are required once a year.
Industrial and utility valves
Burak type mono-block ball valve
One-piece body, installed between two flanges. It is straightforward to install, has a low pressure drop, and is light and compact. Two way, three way and jacketed versions are available. It is full bore and fire-safe.
Natural gas ball valve
Manufactured to TS EN 331 and TS 9809; used as a distribution and service valve in natural gas, LPG and flammable gas installations. Details are given on the Natural gas ball valve page.
EU ball valve
A ball valve to European norm: face-to-face dimensions to EN 558 and flanges to EN 1092-1. It is manufactured in the PN 16, PN 25 and PN 40 pressure ratings.
Steel ball valve
Cast steel body (A216 WCB). Manufactured flanged, threaded, butt welded and socket weld, in full bore and reduction bore. The field of use is water, hot water, steam and compressed air.
High pressure ball valve
A ball valve to European norm in the PN 64, PN 100 and PN 150 pressure ratings. Manufactured flanged and threaded, in full bore and reduction bore.
Cast iron and sphero ball valve
For water, hot water, steam and compressed air. Cast iron valves are rated PN 6, PN 10 and PN 16; sphero valves are rated PN 25. Manufactured to TS 3148.
Special duty valves
3 way ball valve: L type and T type
| L type | T type | |
|---|---|---|
| Ball | "L" shaped port | "T" shaped port |
| Function | Diverts the medium to one of two outlets; changes the direction of flow by 90° | Diverts the medium to one of three outlets or to two at once; can mix media |
| When used | Diverting | Mixing, or two outlets at the same time |
Jacket ball valve
A ball valve with a jacket around its body. It is used in the asphalt, food and chemical industries. An L type 3 way jacketed version is also available.
Frequently asked questions
The L type diverts the medium to one of two outlets and changes the direction of flow by 90°. The T type diverts the medium to one of three outlets or to two at once; it can mix media.
DBB stands for double block and bleed. A DBB ball valve has two balls in a single body with a bleed valve between them; it replaces two separate shut-off valves and one bleed valve.
A ball valve with a one-piece body installed between two flanges. It is light and compact and has a low pressure drop.
A fully welded (underground) ball valve. Its body is closed by welding; it is installed underground on gas transmission and distribution lines.
