We are pleased to share that the article “Bridging mechanical design and industrial AI”, written by our Mechanical Engineer Zahra Farrokhi, has been published in the November 2026 issue of Valve World (pages 40–43).

Bridging Mechanical Design and Industrial AI

The article explains how valve manufacturers can prepare ball valves for evidence-based maintenance, digital twins and future industrial AI workflows. Its key message: the opportunity is not to put artificial intelligence inside every valve, but to preserve the mechanical evidence, operating context and lifecycle baselines of selected critical ball valves.

Key Takeaways

  • Plants already record pressure, flow, temperature and valve position, yet these signals alone do not identify internal leakage or separate valve friction from actuator or coupling problems.
  • Every failure mode should be linked to defensible evidence: rising torque may justify an inspection but does not prove the root cause; a partial stroke shows movement, not seat tightness.
  • Actuator data is only meaningful when the valve–actuator load path is repeatable (ISO 5211 interface, mounting kit, coupling, bracket).
  • Torque–angle curves and stroke times measured during factory acceptance testing (FAT) should be kept as a digital baseline and compared with commissioning and post-maintenance baselines.
  • The article proposes a supplier deliverable called the Valve Diagnostic Readiness Package (VDRP): a valve passport, a healthy-signature envelope, a failure-mode-to-evidence matrix, a sensor-escalation gate, an evidence-retrieval map and a baseline-reset record.
  • An AI copilot can explain a deviation and draft a source-cited action, but it never changes a valve command or safety function directly; the decision stays with people.

Why This Matters for Us

  • Batu Valve designs and manufactures industrial and pipeline ball valves. The actuated valve photographs and 3D views in the article come from our own production, including our 3-way ball valves.
  • Where specified, our valves can be engineered with project-specific interfaces, monitoring provisions, documentation and digital baselines to support integration with third-party IIoT and predictive-maintenance systems.
  • The responsibility boundary is clear: the valve manufacturer owns pressure integrity, the load path, the interfaces and the FAT baseline, while sensors, algorithms and operating decisions belong to the respective parties.
