Valves for Chemical, Asphalt and Food
Valves for Chemical, Asphalt and Food
On chemical, asphalt and food lines the medium determines valve selection: the body and seal materials must be suited to the medium. For viscous or solidifying media, for example on asphalt (bitumen) lines, the jacket ball valve is used; the flow indicator allows the flow in the line to be observed visually. Below you can find our valves for chemical, asphalt and food lines and the main features of each type.
How to Select Valves for Chemical, Asphalt and Food Lines
When you select valves for chemical, asphalt and food lines, the body and seal materials must be compatible with the fluid at its operating temperature and pressure. Our chemical resistance table covers around 300 media and rates four body materials (brass, cast iron, carbon steel and AISI 316 stainless steel) and four seal materials (hard PVC, neoprene, Viton and PTFE) for each of them. The ratings apply at ambient temperature, so the operating temperature should always be checked as well. For corrosive chemicals, valves with a stainless steel body and internals are the preferred choice.
Jacketed Ball Valves for Bitumen and Viscous Media
Bitumen and some food and chemical products thicken or solidify as they cool. For these lines we manufacture jacketed ball valves with a jacket around the valve body, in PN 16 and PN 40, with full or reduced bore and flanged ends. The jacketed version of the Burak type mono block ball valve is available from DN 15 to DN 150 in PN 16 and PN 40. Our jacketed valves operate between −29 °C and +210 °C, which makes them some of the most widely used valves for chemical, asphalt and food processes.
Directing and Mixing the Flow
When a process line has to be switched between two outlets, or two media have to be combined, a single 3 way ball valve can replace several 2 way valves. The L-port design diverts the flow by 90°, while the T-port design can mix the flow or distribute it in three directions.
Monitoring the Flow
The flow indicator allows operators to see the flow in a closed pipeline without opening the line. It is available in PN 16, PN 25 and PN 40, with flanged or threaded ends, with cast iron, ductile iron or steel bodies, for temperatures from −29 °C to +180 °C.
